Agricultural sector, with its multi-functional structure, maintains being the focus of various debates in the international platforms. The economic potential that the agricultural sector embodies in Turkey, the discussions in the international arena that the sector becomes centre to and sector's being focus to multi-dimensional economic relationships, attributes importance to policy analyses regarding the agricultural sector. Formed in December 2008, "Policy Analysis and Modeling Group-PAMG" is a volunteered expert research group which is constituted under the Economic Research Centre on Meditterranean Countries.
PAMG's main purpose is to achieve quantitative policy analyses regarding the subjects, sectors and markets in relation to agricultural sector. During the process of policy making regarding agriculture and related sectors in Turkey, in order to provide scientific support to researchers, institutions and decision makers, the Group aims at producing reliable information and developing policy recommendations by using various modeling techniques. These modeling techniques involve partial and general equilibrium frameworks and can carry out analyses at global level and specifically on Turkey.
Empirical impact assesment of developments and policy changes in the domestic and international markets that are directly and indirectly in relation with agricultural sector; empirical analysis of interactions between agriculture and environment; of linkages between agriculture and biofuels and of developments in genetic modification and organic agriculture are in the research and interest areas of PAMG.
The Group, intends to build a capacity that would develop national and international research projects regarding the above topics to promote the co-operation between academy, industry and public sector; that would construct multi-dimensional relationships with the similar domestic and international institutions and organizations working in the same area; that would train researchers and that would publish refereed, international academic works.
